Cell Phone
Rentals -
Why do I
need to rent? |
|
In the past
renting a
cellular phone
was the only way
for a visitor to
stay in touch
with family,
friends and
business while
visiting Costa
Rica.
State
regulations
prohibited the
ability of
non-residents
(visitors) to
obtain
subscription
service (post
paid) and
pre-paid was not
available.
In November
2011, the almost
two decades
telecommunications
monopoly held by
the state
telecom, the
Instituto
Costarricense de
Electricidad
(ICE) came to an
end with the
start of
operations of
Movistar and
Claro.
Today, the ICE
competes in the
market for
customers in
both post-paid
and pre-paid
services. And
although
non-residents
cannot connect
to any network
for post-paid,
they can no with
pre-paid.
Another change
over the past
year is roaming
as ICE signed
contracts with
carriers in
other countries,
primarily the US
and Canada. But,
this service can
be costly, up to
a few a dollars
a minute, even
for a local
call.
So, with the
advent of the
pre-paid and
roaming why
should you rent?
Simple. Pre-paid
is based on
loading your
account with a
fixed amount
(that equals to
minutes) and
when you run
out, you must
recharge if you
want to continue
having service.
This is all fine
when there is a
recharge access
nearby or have a
Costa Rican bank
account to do so
online. What
about in the
middle of the
night? or if you
are in a remote
community?
Another issue is
coverage. Not
all operators
have complete
countrywide
coverage, only
ICE does.
Thus, with a
ONECALL cell
phone rental you
have countrywide
coverage, for
one, since we
only deal with
ICE and second
you never run
out of airtime,
minutes, etc,
since the
account is a
post-paid and
there are no
limits on your
usage.
In addition,
renting from
ONECALL you have
to never worry
what your call
will cost you.
ONECALL offers
an all inclusive
package that
includes all
incoming and
outgoing local
calls, all
incoming
international
calls, text
messaging
(including
internationals
with 3G), voice
mail and full
time connection
to the internet
up to 1.5 mbps
(with 3G). The
only additional
cost are
outgoing
international
calls and you
control that.
Also, there is
no going looking
for a cell phone
store or point
of sale to buy
service or
recharged your
account. A
ONECALL
representatives
will meet you at
the airport or
your hotel at
your
convenience.
And IF there is
a problem, again
your ONECALL
representative
is on hand to
help you out,
replace a phone
if necessary or
just to give you
instructions on
making an
international
call.
In whichever way
you see it, you
are not alone in
having to figure
the complex
world of
telecommunications
in Costa Rica.
And all in
English!
We can go on,
but it must be
clear by now,
for hassle free
telecommunications
in Costa Rica
there is only
ONE choice,
ONECALL! |
